Brazil ahead of Germany, Netherlands, Belgium joint-bid for 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Brazil are in pole position to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup ahead of the combined bid of Germany, Netherlands and Belgium. The findings were released by FIFA in an evaluation report on Tuesday.

The final decision will be taken at the FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand on 17 May. It will be the first instance of FIFA governing body members holding an open vote to decide a tournament’s hosts.

Based on the technical evaluation, Brazil’s bid was given an average score of 4.0 out of 5, while the joint European bid received a 3.7.

Both bids were deemed to have met the minimum hosting requirements of the evaluation task force.

The
United States and Mexico had withdrawn their joint bid
last week. US Soccer said the two federations will instead focus on hosting the 2031 edition. South Africa dropped their bid late last year, saying it would also attempt to host in 2031.

Brazil has twice hosted the FIFA Men’s World Cup – in 1950 and 2014. However, the FIFA Women’s World Cup has never been hosted by a South American country.

The latest edition was hosted by Australia and New Zealand – first instance of two nations hosting an extravaganza.
