Munich Airport (MUC) in Bavaria, Germany – HD Video Interview with Michael Haeffner
(14/03/24)
In 2023, Munich Airport (MUC) in Bavaria,
Germany handled 37 million passengers, an increase of 17% compared
to last year and around 80% of the record level in 2019,
pre-COVID.
In 2023, the focus of passenger development was on
traffic originating from or ending at Munich and that rose by 22
percent compared to the previous year. The number of transfer
passengers also saw double-digit growth of 11 percent during 2023.
Freight volumes ended the year on a positive note
as well, increasing by 7% to a total of around 280,000 metric
tons.
Michael Haeffner
Aircraft movements rose by 6%
year-on-year to more than 300,000 take offs and landings, whilst
seat load factor reached a record level of 81.3%, exceeding
80% for the first time since the airport opened.
To learn more about Munich Airport’s plans to
improve further on those already impressive numbers, Steven Howard of Travel News
Asia sat down with Michael Haeffner, Business Division Aviation,
Director Route and Passenger Development, at Routes Asia 2024 in Langkawi, Malaysia.
In this interview, filmed on 29 February 2024,
Steven asks Michael for his thoughts on Routes Asia and what he
believes is the secret behind the event’s continued and growing
success.
We discuss Munich Airport, which markets have
recovered the fastest, which in South East Asia he would most like
to attract and what challenges he faces in growing that business.
We also talk about the issues MUC has in
retaining and recruiting the right staff, what the situation is
with high-speed rail connectivity at the airport, and how they are
using technology to enhance the overall travel experience for
passengers and operations at the airport.
All that and much, much more in the interview
below which is available in both HD video and audio podcast
formats.
